Join us on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, for an exciting presentation by local mixed media artist Bill Colt. Bill will share with us his inspiration, his choice of materials and subject matter, and lead us through a demonstration of his process.
A mixed media acrylic painter, Bill creates texture using joint compound, raw canvas, cheesecloth and other materials. He then applies collage to his paintings, using material from 1950’s magazines, comic books, engineering manuals, tourist brochures, and more. If you look closely at his work, you’ll see bits and pieces of this collage, giving his work an underlying “graffiti” dimension.
Bill majored in art at the University of Virginia, and later studied graphic art at Johnson and Wales. He is a former corporate pilot, and for years flew out of Monroe, NC, where he still lives. He is represented by the Wilde Meyer Gallery in Scottsdale and Tucson, the Fred Darpino Gallery in Colorado Springs and the A.T. Hun Gallery in Savannah. He is also the unofficial “large cow” painter for the DelFrisco’s Grille franchise, with locations throughout the U.S.
