History of Matthews Artists Guild

Matthews Artists Guild was founded in 2006 by Alan Wells as an outgrowth of the group known as the Artists of Matthews. It was created to encourage and stimulate the practice and appreciation of the creative arts. MAG started with a core group of 25 artists and today has over 100 members. MAG members include both amateur and professional artists who work in many different mediums.

The Matthews Artists Guild is very active with meeting and ongoing workshops for all its members. MAG sponsors several groups, including  plein-air, a watercolor study group, and life drawing.

MAG meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month at the McDowell Arts Center which is part of the Matthews Community Center. The Art Center has both an art gallery for display and a workshop area. Our meetings each month have a demo or presentation by either a national or local artist, providing our members the opportunity to learn and improve their own art.

MAG holds many half and full day workshops each year. Presented by well-known artists, they provide an affordable and informative opportunity for members to enhance their skills.

MAG offers many selling shows for its members, including our annual member show at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center.  There is ample opportunity for MAG members to gain exposure for their art.

MAG is a 501(c)3 charitable organization .
